Support for new Bexhill railway station ticket machine

The company responsible for the station, Southern Railways, wants to install a more modern machine to reduce queuing times and supplement the two existing machines.
A planning application was submitted to Rother District Council on April 1, and a Bexhill Rail Action Group (BRAG) spokesman welcomed the scheme.

Hide Ad“There can’t be too many ticket machines. Hopefully will be an updated design as the two on the forecourt are showing their age,” the spokesman said.
“Conversely, we also believe that ticket office machines complement and should not replace ticket office staff who should always be available to assist with more complex transactions.”
Southern wants to place the new ticket machine in the southwest corner of the station booking hall.

Hide AdA spokesman said the proposal would bring staff out of the office to work as ‘station hosts’ on the concourse.
Their role would be to help people use the ticket machines, as well as sell tickets themselves and answer queries.
“Not only would this be for more than 27 hours longer than our ticket office is open today but we’d keep the ticket office open in the morning when it’s busy and there is a high demand,” the spokesman added.
