A broken rail at Gatwick Airport has caused disruption that is expected to last until the end of the day, according to Network Rail.

During overnight safety inspections, a damaged section of rail was discovered at a junction north of Gatwick Airport station. Network Rail staff are on site, but a full repair is not immediately possible.

Network Rail has imposed a speed restriction of 10mph on one of the two southbound lines approaching Gatwick Airport.

Trains from London, East Croydon and Redhill towards Gatwick Airport may be delayed or cancelled, according to the operating company.

Network Rail said passengers can travel on their planned routes, but to expect delays of up to ten minutes.

If congestion builds up, some service changes may be needed, so the operator has asked passengers to check their live departure boards to see which trains are running.
