The annual small boat lure bass fishing competition was held off of the coastline of Bognor and the weather and sea conditions couldn’t have been better. The competition started well for angler Tony Chant, who caught a nice bass of 46cm within the first five minutes over a close in reef mark, putting the pressure on his fellow anglers. Most anglers caught bass but it was hard to land any quality-sized fish to overtake the leader. Eventually a few fish came very close in length, but then Chant came up trumps with yet another bass that put him in the winnings – a fish of 49cm. All fish caught were measured, photographed and released to fight another day. Thanks went to the competition sponsors who donated tackle prizes and trophies: Aldwick Angling (Bognor Regis), Tronix Fishing (Sussex), Hook A Fish (Littlehampton) and Lagoon Bait & Tackle (Hove). Bognor-based sea angling club the West Kent and Sussex Sea Fishing Club are looking for new members who wish to participate in small-boat fishing as guest anglers and to join in monthly charter trips starting from January. They are booking boat trips for next season and cover a mixture of inshore and wrecking trips. They welcome new and novice anglers as well as more experienced anglers to join their friendly boat crews.
