Bosham 1 Westfield 2
Southern Combination division two
Westfield completed a surprising league double over Bosham with a hard-fought triumph against the Reds at Walton Lane.
Bosham started well and, despite few efforts, looked likely to pose the greater threat.

Hide AdThe quality in the final third wasn’t as it could be but, not long after the quarter-hour, Marco Giambelardini had a golden opportunity to open his account. A lovely through-ball found Giambelardini through on goal and keeper Joesph Cullip was no match for the striker who rounded him but somehow, he contrived to put his effort wide.
Just after the half-hour, Bosham were made to pay for the missed opportunities when Jordan Woodley opened the scoring for Westfield with a deflection for help, from a free kick just outside the area. The deflection completely wrongfooted keeper Kieran Magee.
Minutes later, Curtis Coombes headed in from a corner whipped in by Woodley. Bosham responded before the interval with Matt Docherty in the right place to control the ball and expertly pick his spot to bring the Reds back into it.
The second half was very open. Alex Barnes had a lovely curling effort saved by Cullip and with the Robins dominating it was frustrating they could not find a finish to their improving work.

Hide AdThere were few shots on target but lots of endeavour. Chahir Maizi looked sharp and had Bosham back-pedalling at times but Ben Blanshard and Callum Fewell held firm to keep them at bay.
Late in the second half, with light fading, Bosham brought on Storey and Lafferty and the decision paid off when Storey broke the deadlock with seven minutes of normal time left.
He surged forward and used excellent strength to outwit a defender and then unleash an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
Minutes later, the lead was doubled by Lafferty. From a corner on the left, the ball arrived at Lafferty’s feet and he fired at goal. With keeper Dean Brook-Marsh unsighted, the ball slipped underneath him and in.
