Wick lose to Worthing in Senior Cup

GEORGE Gaskin came back to haunt Wick Football Club on Tuesday evening when he scored one goal and set another one up for his new side, Worthing, in their 2-0 triumph in the Sussex Senior Cup second round.

Rebels will host Rye in the next round but Wick will be kicking themselves for losing after gifting a Rebels side clearly short on confidence both goals.

Worthing got off to a dream start when Wick’s defence allowed the ball to bounce on the edge of their own area, and then Ruben French’s weak header fell to his former colleague Gaskin, whose deft chip found Terry Dodd in space on the penalty spot and he drilled home with just six minutes on the clock.

There was a nervy moment for Rebels after 25 minutes when youth team keeper James Fernandes allowed the ball to squirm under him from a Rob Wimble shot, but to the relief of the visitors the ball trickled out for a corner.

Arguably the best move of the game came on 38 minutes with a quick break down the left from Dodd. His inch-perfect ball found strike partner Gaskin 12 yards out but the striker failed to hit the target against his former club.
